Cambridgeshire LUPUS UK

Committee Members and Contacts: what we do

  • The Group provides a range of support to people in Cambridgeshire with lupus.  This includes regular meetings for people with lupus.  These currently take place in Cambridge and Peterborough and we are hoping to establish a regular meeting in Wisbech.  We call these meetings Lupus Links.  We produce a quarterly newsletter which provides information about lupus as well as details of events that are taking place and reports on our fundraising activities.  You can download our Newsletter by clicking on the appropriate link in the top menu.
  • We currently have five telephone Contacts  who are available for people with lupus to contact.  Please click on Contact Us and write a message about with whom you wish to speak and the topic.
  •  We help to raise awareness of lupus by working with the media through media releases, the general public through flag day events, attending local fates and carnivals.  Fundraising is important to both maintain our Group and to send to our National Office (hotlink to LUPUS UK site) for the work that they do and the pursuit of a cure for lupus.
  • The 2009 Annual General Meeting saw the following people being elected to the Group’s committee:
    • Shelagh Cheesman:     Contact/Chair
    • Gabrielle Morris:            Secretary, Membership Secretary
    • Linda Simpkin:               Treasurer
    • Lucy Kirkman:                Newsletter Editor
    • Shirley Smith:                 Contact/Librarian
    • Anne Lockwood:            Committee Member
    • Daphne Gilbert:               Contact/ Committee Member
    • Marion Walker:               Contact/ Committee Member
  • Jane Robinson is also a Contact.
  • Our Contacts have been trained to deliver a lay support service to people with lupus or family members and friends. They are unable to give medical advice. They are usually people with lupus themselves or within the family. They are volunteers and receive no payment for their work or expenses. Please respect that they may have lupus too. Please use the Contact Us system to write a message about with whom you wish to speak and you will receive information about times and telephone numbers.
  • Our Contacts are:

Shelagh Cheesman has had Lupus diagnosed for 20 years.

Daphne Gilbert has a grown up daughter with lupus who diagnosed when she was still living at home.

Jane Robinson has had lupus diagnosed for 14 years and Shirley Smith  and Marion Walker for many years.

Each person comes with their own experiences and knowledge of lupus. They may suggest that you contact one of the other Contacts who have more experience in a particular subject. We also have access to more specialised Contacts – a man with Lupus, a young mother, a young person and a carer – if you would like to speak any of these Contacts, please use the Contact Us system and we will pass on their details, You can also use the Contact Us form to receive support. This allows you to contact us whenever you like.
